Possibly Saul Betesh got outside assistance developing his role-playing game "Crystal Island" (disturbingly similar to the psychoactive game, Dungeons & Dragons) and running it from his prison-cell. Possibly financial assistance and settlement aid will come from many, many members of the Toronto Dungeons & Dragons cult, as a kind of reward for Betesh and his two associates (now deceased) successfully pulling off a real-life cult sacrifice to the god Tlaloc almost 30 years ago, in the murder of 12-year-old shoeshine-boy Emanuel Jaques.

He used to be a big RPG fan, and believed that there was an organized Christian conspiracy out there trying to take down gamers. He got crazier and crazier about it, at one point objecting to WWII vet monument ads on RPG.net because they had Tom Hanks pic in 'em, and as we all know, Tom Hanks is part of the anti-D&D conspiracy.

At some point in the late 90s something weird happened in his brain, and he became convinced that D&D players in Toronto are part of a secret gay pedophile conspiracy.

I am awed by his nuttiness. I'm always amused by the oddities of the crackpots who puruse various intense hobbies like gaming or sports fandom.

He was, as pyat says, a general crackpot. He felt that the role of women in gaming was as cookie servers, and was a rabid fundamentalist atheist. He was ejected from several mailing lists, and used to be a member of the Canadian Eperanto Association, although I don't know the circumstances of his leaving that organisation.

If you want fun, look up drac@wbb.com (or possibly .net) on Google Groups. He also got ejected from the Space bulletin boards (Spacecast.com is the website of Space, The Imagination Station, the national SF station here in Canuckistan).
