atCosplay.com's Canadian forum, and a full scale revolt at their own forums.
It's sounding odd, really, because the news coming out doesn't jibe with any sort of convention experience I've ever had. Apparently attendees were told that the con was cancelled by the hotel due to low attendance.
Now, that doesn't make any sense. The con would have signed the contract with the con months ago, generally agreeing that the function space would be paid for on a sliding scale; for every X hotel rooms, the convention's cost for space would go down by $Y. The only way I can see the con being cancelled is if there was a violation of their contract with the hotel, but I can't imagine what that could be.
On the other hand, it doesn't make any sense for the con to cancel itself, since they would be required to pay for the unused space in any case (it's not like the hotel can turn around and book something into it overnight).
Anyone else have any further information on it?
