Cheerful Gaming Geekery
Oct. 30th, 2005 06:06 pmPlayed some X-Men Legends today. Almost finished. If you mess up the final mission, you get to see New York destroyed by an asteroid impact. Cool.
Noticed an amusing co-incidence. Cyclops is played by Robin Haircut Downes, who's been doing a lot of videogame work since he ruined Babylon 5.
What's amusing is that during the game I was playing "make fun of the dry dialogue" and said "sure, just ask my redheaded super-powerful psychic girlfriend", which I realized applied to both characters.
Anyway, it amused me.

Date: 2005-10-31 02:22 am (UTC)Robin sang me happy birthday. Tracy was very nice to me. But she can't act.
Robin's character was badly written. That means JMS ruined B5.

(Nah, I wouldn't want to do either of them, either.)
I come not to praise Straczynski, but to bury him
Date: 2005-10-31 02:30 am (UTC)But I don't doubt a better performer could have made Byron somewhat palatable.

Date: 2005-10-31 12:33 pm (UTC)At least, I won't, since my hat of RAD/Byron know no limit

Date: 2005-10-31 03:33 am (UTC)I mean, I really didn't enjoy the fifth season at all, but I don't think it "ruined" the show.
To clarify
Date: 2005-10-31 12:56 pm (UTC)And, I hate Byron.

Date: 2005-10-31 04:22 am (UTC)I think the Centauri Arc ending with S520 Wheel of Fire, and S522 Sleeping in Light are the equal of anything else JMS did for the series.
A View From The Gallery and Day of the Dead, both off-beat shows (and featuring some Robin Downes moments) are two of my favourite non-Centauri episodes in season 5.
So there.

Date: 2005-10-31 12:06 pm (UTC)However, A View from the Gallery was just dumb. The actual 'plot' (mysterious alien race attacking to see if the ISA is tuff enuff? Where the hell did THESE guys come from?) was annoying, and the Mack & Bo structure grated on my raw nerves. Bad, bad, bad.
Day of the Dead was interesting, but wasn't a B5 script, more a Twilight Zone story; that sort of "magic thing" just doesn't fit in the B5 milieu.
