[livejournal.com profile] cargoweasel suggested that the Tailaways research centre appears to be rundown, and their magneto-reactive device may be what's killing them; it may also have been the sickness that killed Rousseau's team. Definitely a possibility.

Another item on the Hanso website listed one of their other projects, the Mathematical Forecasting Initiative. Probably a thing to do with probabilities and stuff, right? Now, imagine, then, that they discovered a range of numbers that altered probability, or just defied it? Could Hurley's sequence of magic numbers be a result of the MFI?

Mysteries galore.

Also, don't forget the brief shot of polar bears for two seconds in the orientation film, mentioning zoology experiments. Perhaps that is where the shark tank and specially-bred jungle polar bears live.
