Quick thought:
Sep. 8th, 2005 11:43 pmBruce Campbell: Okay, he's a coolish guy from the sound of things, but, really, an actor? No. Look, if he wasn't childhood chums with Sam Raimi, he'd be parking cars for a living doing musical theatre on weekends.
Bubba Ho Tep was emotionally draining in the "Two hour mediocre Elvis Impression" sense. He did well with his books (My Life With Sam, vol 1 & 2), and the book tours were a great idea (he said, blood dripping from his bitten tongue) but he flatters himself by calling himself a B actor.
I'd like to see a good breakdown of actors by grade; I think we could get to F before too long.
Wisest thing I've ever heard anyone say: "People say they want to be actors. They don't want to be actors. They want to be movie stars."

Date: 2005-09-09 04:03 am (UTC)If A Tree Falls was brilliant. And of course, the encore was my favourite, "Wondering Where the Lions Are".
I heard some wise things too, from David Suzuki. Many wise things, actually. But they're not snippets. And I need to sleep.

Date: 2005-09-09 06:10 am (UTC)I saw Army of Darkness again on the late shift tonight. I've seen it many, many times. It just doesn't stop being awesome. "Go ahead and run. Run home and cry to momma. Me? I'm stayin' right here."
Sam and Bruce started from the same place, and Sam got indie cred through Bruce's charismatic work. I daresay that without Bruce, Sam Raimi would still be directing low-grossing swamp movies like "A Simple Plan" (admittedly, excellent) and "The Gift" (admittedly, woeful). As it is, they each have their own careers, and Bruce entertains me more than enough to justify the money I occasionally pay to buy his book, DVD, what-have-you.

Date: 2005-09-09 01:36 pm (UTC)Like I said, Campbell's charismatic and everything. I'm sure he'd be very succesful selling Subarus in central Michigan somewhere, doing a turn as the Dentist is Little Shop of Horrors on weekends. I just don't think he qualifies for the level of fan adoration he's accumulated. He's like a strange Marketer's dream, holding this ultra-slim slice of the pie in a velvet stranglehold.
I just have no desire to see The Man with the Screaming Brain.
And the ED flicks? All Raimi. He could have made Ted look good in those.
Okay, maybe not Ted.

And Tachyon was a really cool game!
So there! :P
