Astro City: The Dark Age # 3. Interesting book, yeah. I do wonder where it's going, although the AC continuity pretty much guarantees it won't be good. Enjoying the story, although the cop subplot doesn't quite ground it as well as most of the ordinary folks stories do. This was really one I'd have liked to have seen from the supers PoV.

Made me wanna buy T&J, though.

ASM #523: Nice story, and I like how the Hydra supervillains 'tactics' boiled down to "let's all attack him at once". The joke ("An obscene Clone Fall") was funny. The Bucky flashback was cool. Shame Bucky's still dead.

Supreme Power #18: Wow. 18 issues later, and it looks like the story is about to start. There goes that famous Straczynski Pacing. If he'd had this much leeway on TV, The Narn/Centauri war wouldn't have started until midway through season 18 of B5.

Desolation Jones #1: Dammit. I should have gotten issue #2 while I was there. This is really cool. Jones is a British secret agent with substance problems ("James Bond never urinated on himself, Mr. Jones") and is now living in LA doing detective work, where he's been hired to recover amateur porn produced by Hitler.

Spike: Some annoying Bullshit. Spike, teh gay vampire from Buffy, fights with a vengeance demon to save a poet. Thank God I have a wife who can enjoy this, because it's sure as hell proof that Peter David is only human. I still love his Spidey Vs the Commuter issue.

Serenity #3: Well, it ended better than it began, but thay may be because I was reading it while I was driving (don't DO that, kids!) The villains were kinda pathetic, but there was at least some closure. Book's departure still makes no sense. Ah, well. Pretty pictures.

One other thing really bothering me about Supreme Power: 18 was the last adult MAX issue. The series will now return under the Marvel Knight line, tamer to reach a larger audience.

Right away I'm guessing the blue fish-lady will get less revealing clothes.

While the swear words may be pointless, and the nudity isn't the reason the comic is good. I wonder whether or not the story as a whole will retain its better qualities. They have routinely stated that they are eliminating the adult content to reach a wider audience. What else may get shifted out of the picture to these ends?

Removing content, no matter what the content is or how important it is, in order to reach a wider audience has never been a hallmark of artistic quality.

I just couldn't put up with Supreme Power. It always sort of felt (and this is somebody who admittedly didn't read more than a few issues, so grain of salt) like he was doing a Marvel Rising Stars. Do you also get the weird feeling he's trying to watch something Watchmen-level?

Ditto on Serenity. A friend recently asked if there's anything he knew for the movie, and the answer was... "Um... well, not really."

Firestar's a marvel character. Do you mean Firestorm? (And I ask in complete ignorance, as I've not read a Supreme Power since the one where Power Princess first appeared?)

Interesting; as far as (my admittedly swiss-cheese) powers of recollection allow, I don't remmeber a Firestorm-knock off in the Squadron... so he's making new characters, too?
