HBP: Done

After grazing on it for a couple weeks, I'm done.

After conquering my desire to set fire to Ass monkey (seriously, don't go there if you ain't read the book but are of the breed of humanity who don't want the ending told to you), I enjoyed it. The ending was good, although didn't make TOTAL sense in retrospect.

And I obviously enjoyed it way more than the people linked to in this post (warning, psycho fandom at work). Someone on RPG.net referred to it as 'Wankageddon'.

Having skimmed through some of that wankageddon... I now have been introduced to the concept of shipping.

And think people just get too carried away with 'zat stuff.

I've been aware of the whole idea of "Shippers" via Buffy fandom, but I had no clue that anyone took it this seriously. (Which is foolish on my part, I guess. Anything fannish can and will be taken to ridiculous extremes.)

I think this may be because the people in question are likely teenaged girls, a breed not renowned for perspective.

Of course, middle-aged housewives can be just as bad.

Oh, holy shitcakes... I made the mistake of reading that guy's Livejournal. I suppose my first question would be how on earth he reconciles his self-admitted act of sheer, petulant, entitled-intellectual malice with this earlier statement:

"Third, there must be a strengthening of the public sphere, and civil society. A libertarian utopia relies on the public spiritedness of its citizens - it cannot survive without ethical citizens who feel a committment to help their fellow man."

This is why I'm not authorized to fling lightning bolts.

He's too high to not be hypocritical.
