I'm reminded of an episode of the scariest radio series of all time, " Quiet Please."
While not the scariest episode from this anthology fantasy/SF show dating back to the 1940s (that would be "The Thing on the Fourble Board", this sound file you linked to reminds me very much of the eerie, "Northern Lights", which is very much worth tracking down.
