Rules. You will follow them.

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Now, from happy go lucky Australian (do ya'll recoil at the use of the term Ozzie?) [livejournal.com profile] eynowd, another batch of questions.

1. How did the guy who used to write a column on RPGnet end up watching my LiveJournal and what keeps me on your friends list?

That Bitter Guy died four years ago. I'm just sleeping with his wife.

Honestly, I just wandered in from [livejournal.com profile] artbroken's flist, and found that I referenced your bookmark enough to put you on the full time list. Besides, you take nice pictures. And I'm hoping you'll explain those Community rules someday.

2. If you could any band or musician in concert, who would it be and why?

There's a verb in there, right? I'll presume it's 'see', and I'd go see Elvis. Because, well, he's dead now, so I really wouldn't get another chance. Maybe that concert he did in black leather before a vestigial audience. The ultimate Intimate and Interactive.

3. Someone offers you a chance to walk on the moon. Would you take it?

You're kidding, right? I'd be on that in a heartbeat. If I was told "your chances of getting back are 50/50" or "you will lose 5 years off your life", that might give me pause, but to take a stroll on another celestial body? Hop on the moon? Maybe play lacrosse up there? 'Effin A.

4. You're organizing an all-star gaming table for a system of your choice. What's the game, who's the GM and who's the players?

I'd get Robin Laws to run Feng Shui for me. And it would be a session about a team of luchadors fighting vampires. And I'd get a bunch of semi-liquored NGO members to play.

5. What's your favourite alcoholic beverage?

You don't KNOW how cruel that question is, but it is. I've been off the grape/grain for almost a year now. I really miss rum right now, to be honest. A certain masochistic element in my brain tells me that we'd REALLY like Tequila right now. I miss an occasional glass of wine with dinner. Hell, right now I'd go for a beer and a burger, or a platter of wings, or some nachos. That feeling is particularly amplified when the brewery across the road from my workplace is roasting the hops.

Sorry about the alcohol question, dude, I didn't know :(

No, I don't have a problem with the term Aussie :)

And what in particular about the community rules do you want explained? :)

You gotta remember what the original design parameters were: the aim of the exercise with the community stuff was not to create an abstracted thing to play as you would a character.

Instead, it was to create an entity that the player characters could belong to, but it could be interacted with as though it was a character. The PCs were supposed to be an integral part of the community, and that you could base an entire campaign around the events in one.

That's where the Community Behaviour Map fits in. It's supposed to be a way for the GM to generate ideas about what happens in a community when stuff happens. It can be everyday stuff, or it can be big, earth-shattering stuff. It's a narrative plot generator, basically.

If you're looking at them in terms of them being some sort of meta-rules for running abstract groups, you're using them wrong.

Go watch a few episodes of Northern Exposure, watch how the characters interact, then come back and reread the community rules. Chances are they'd make a lot more sense then.
