Okay, what's the etiquette for adding someone to you 'friends' list? Do you just do it? Do you have to announce it? Should you tell them, or assume they'll notice eventually?

Really. I'd like to know. What if I wanted to remove someone? Suppose they're just not interesting anymore? Should you explain yourself?

I have no idea. No one ever explains these things to me. I suck at 'picking up' social niceties. Ask anyone I've ever killed a conversation in front of.

I don't know; if you find out, do tell me. Most friends I've added have been people I've already known, which negates the issue somewhat.

Speaking for myself, though, it's nothing but nice to find that someone random has added you as a friend. It's nice to know that people actually want to follow what you're saying. :)

I was going to cut a mildly entertaining - I hoped - promo to say "Just barge in and insult the hometown of the person who you just added to your friend list" but Mozilla conspired to crash while I was writing it, and I really can't channel the mood again.
