Finished a book, yah
Feb. 14th, 2005 10:35 pmSo I polished off Just a Geektoday. Took a break from Fear & Loathing in LV (because it always makes sense to stop reading a library book to read a book you now own).
Enjoyable book. Although much of the material is duplicated from his Blog, it wasn't nearly as irritating as when Scott Keith does it.
In fact, I find that Scott Keith's match recaps really suck, and would like him to stop, as his general commentary on the wrestling industry is much more enjoyable. And I totally don't give a shit about 24. Seriously.
Weaton's book is a good read, and made me cry, particularly when he mentioned how horrible he felt at SDCC in 2001, all alone, and I remembered standing in the autograph area, pointing and laughing, laughing and pointing. It seemed so funny at the time.
If I'd known he was a gamer, I would at least have gone up and offered him the secret handshake and admonished him for choosing GURPS over Hero. Poor, deluded bastard.
In any case, enjoyable read. It gets the Bitter Thumbs Up.

Date: 2005-02-15 09:15 pm (UTC)I had a somewhat backwards experience with the book; I had paid ZERO attention to Wheaton's 'blog until I read Just a Geek.
I give HIM a thumbs-up; he seems like a likeable bloke (GURPS obsession notwithstanding), but I wasn't wowed by his writing. It reminds me too much of his acting: unpolished, earnest, and ultimately unconvincing--but clearly attempted with pure heart and good intentions.

I didn't find it as unconvincing, obviously. But I didn't really cry; the shame was mostly from my own poor treatment of talent in the past.
