Fairly quiet weekend. We'd planned on going to the Taste! thingy in Picton, but since we weren't going to Mater & Pater's for Thanksgiving, it would have just been a huge drive out for a chocolate fountain and some little snacks.

Hell, we've even been lapse in attending the local farmer's market, so going a couple hundred klicks to see one in another county seems somewhat hypocritical.

Saturday was taken up with... God, I cannot recall for the life of me. Probably tidying up one house part or another. And shopping for TG foodstuffs and getting a wedding present. We wanted to watch Aliens, but on our way to the video store we endedup also getting Hot Fuzz and Superman: Doomsday. We did watch Superman: Doomsday on Saturday.

Sunday was selfsame wedding, [livejournal.com profile] zenten's. Ceremony was held at the same place as the reception, Fantasy Farms in TO. The attending padre was taking his time off from his full time carreer as a Charles Nelson Reilly impersonator.

Dinner was sweet, with grilled foodstuffs (I got a hella-tasty steak) and Anthony, the same guy who'd been bartender at [livejournal.com profile] mr_weasel's reception, was large & in charge. God bless him. One ounce is just a suggestion, when it comes right down to it.

The reception was fun, and I got in my token amount of dancing. It was good to see Ed & Kathy again, as we haven't seen them in forever. I can't even remember the last time we went out for karaoke. [livejournal.com profile] zenten, in a fannish moment, used Sarek's wedding speech.

Yesterday was TG, and the majority of it was spent cleaning up stuff in the office downstairs. Personally, I think we need to go through the spare bedroom next to it first, but golden rule, etc, etc. Uday & his GF came over for dinner, and it went nice. The turkey was tasty, there was an awesome pumpkin pie that was very light, and we watched some Hot Fuzz (it's not totally appropriate TG viewing, but we had to get it back last night).

Bleh. And now I'm back in the trenches.

Two Phelms.

Superman: Doomsday

An intersting adaptation of the comic Mega-Event. They cut out all the DCU material in favour of making it a strictly Superman event. The animation was good, although they added strangely drawn cheekbones onto Superman's face, which made him look strange. The story was interesting, although I miss the "Four Supermen" plotline, but they've all been worked in in the intervening time. The Eradicator isn't quite as interesting a character now, without the strange grim n' gritty thing being as prevalant as it used to be, Steel is pretty much a standard guy, Cyborg Superman has a bit too much backstory, and they couldn't use Superboy if they wanted to.

The highlight was the documentary about the media and cultural reaction to the original Death of Superman comics story was released (favourite quote: "Nothing else in the world happened that day"). The preview of The Last Fontier is just un-necessary teasing. I hope they get it right; I can dig Neil Patrick Harris as The Flash.

Hot Fuzz was more awesome starring Pegg & Frost. It does for action films what Shaun did for Zombie films. Cynra & I assumed that Jessica Stevenson was the ex, and so the IMDB revelation that it was Cate Blanchett was amusing. The fact she recognized the guy who played Belloq as the priest was just annoying. Grr.

Cameos aside, the film was enjoyable, and the final gunfight was wonderfully put together; if you could splice that and the chase scene's in Death Proof together, it would be the perfect movie.
