Okay, not quite. Cynra is gung ho to get up at WTF O'Clock to get her oil changed and some diner breakfast (good old diner breakfast. It'll probably be listed as my CoD. And [livejournal.com profile] pyat's, too).

Joss Whedon talks about X-Men comics.

Staring at an issue of Dragon with a cover by Denis Beauvais from his chess series (Beauvais' website seems to have been untouched for four or five years now).

February '87. Nineteen years ago.

There's an add for the Ultimate Powers Book in there. I wish I could play a MSH game after class.

Old Dragon mags are strange things. I mean, there's very little of use to me in this; the articles on tournaments and jousting might be interesting reads, but require a certain type of campaign I'm not likely to run or play in. MSH stats for Adam Warlock, Pip & Gamorra? God, were they not irrelevant even before that issue was released?*

Oh, man. Convention listings. Folie-Con '87 will be held at the Ramada Inn in Montreal. Registration is $10. Contact addresses and phone numbers for the Windsor GameFest 5, July 25-26. My dad would never have let me go, and my catalogue route wouldn't have gotten me enough money for the trip. I seriously should have saved up A&P cash for GenCon trips in the '80s/early '90s. Who knows what might have been.

Feh. Maudlin, again. Tired, I suppose. Feeling nostalgic, or just old. I should go shopping to make myself feel better.

Went in on some lottery tickets with a couple co-workers. Did not win. Ah, well.

*Yes, yes, they were VITAL in Infinity Gauntlet and the new She Hulk series for two issues

So, last week, while Cynra & I were out getting some cat food and carpet cleaner spray

While in the midst of shopping, we spotted this, a turducken flavoured cat food from Merrick, a small family cat food manufacturer.

Okay, it was kinda pricey, but, wow. Turducken? For cats? I was there. Right in that. We took it home, and a few days later decided they'd been relatively well behaved (Ozzy hadn't attempted to mount my kneecaps in the past few days), so we opened that stuff up for them.

Holy cow. You know, to say they liked it is a bit of an understatement. They'll poke and nibble at wet food while waiting for the dry. This stuff? They tore into it like a Conservative government into a chance for government corruption.

It's kinda weird to think the cats are getting better food than me, but as long as they're happy, that's what's important.

So overnight, the Kevan.org folks took the Johari windows and have fixed it up so it shows details.

Neat. Obviously successful, since it crashes every ten minutes or so.

You should be able to see the status behind the cut. )

Dropped by [livejournal.com profile] mr_weasel's workplace for a couple hours this afternoon. Always fun, even if people do start asking questions of you just because you're standing behind the counter.

Unlike most pharmacies, there's no step, so I didn't get to look down at people.

We played some A&A Minis, and it's quite the fun little game. Rules are fairly light to start and have a not too steep learning curve.

I played the heroic allies, and defeated the treacherous Japanazis (there were no actual Japanese units in his army, though. He could have used the pontoon tank). We didn't get to play through (the 7 round game idea is very good, mind you). I shot my paratrooper wad kinda quick, could have waited another round to catch the germans in a pincer maneuver.

The Italian tank blew up good, though.

It's pretty much impossible to play a Nationalist Chinese army, as their basic unit is about 4 points, and you can't have more than 15 units in an army.

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] mr_weasel! Check this out:

When I was a kid, one of my favourite books in the library was a compendium of old Wonder Woman stories. In that book, Wonder Woman had her gang of sorority sidekicks (including Etta Candy, the original superhero fat sidekick).

Anyway, every few issues one of her buddies would be wounded gravely in battle, and WW would whisk them off to Paradise Island for five minutes of Purple Healing Ray therapy.

Well, deus ex machina it may be, it was cool.

So, recently, in Infinite Crisis #3, Paradise Island is under attack by a swarm of nano empowered fighting machines (God, I hate when that happens). So, the Amazons are working to ward them off. Their last ditch attempt? They reverse the polarity on the Purple Healing Ray to be a Purple Death Ray.

Folks, you know me. I don't squee. I don't titter. I don't giggle. But that moment, as much as anything else in the IC series, owned me. Held me down and made me say uncle. More than the return of Barry Allen, more than the devastation of the Freedom Fighters, more than the return of Superman II, more than any of those things, the Purple Death Ray was a Fuck Yeah moment.
