Fringe plans
Got the listings for Fringe Toronto last week, and printed out a selection of shows I'd like to take home. Of course, the weekend?s events (and the lost list) precluded actually going over them in any number, but there are a bunch that pique my interest.
And, yes, I know they all seem like the kind of stuff that I would like. I'm sorry that I am myself.
Don't Get Me Started by Mike Petersen
It's the story of a guy who worked for Henson & ILM. Really, if it's just a personal monologue, I'll be happy. If he actually does puppeteering and stuff? Bliss.
Oz Recalled: A Musical Comedy about a Middle-aged DorothyIt's Oz, it's a musical, and it was staged in Kingston. I have a weakness for Musicals (I blame the Mirvishes), although a resistance to the Bjorn and Barney stuff. I just wanna see a fringe play with 16 people. And a live band. And Oz revisionism is always fun.
SARSical
A satirical musical (again!) about SARS. I want to hear the song where Mel asks "Who is WHO? I?ve never heard of them!" Having survived both the SARS outbreak (the sole result of which was the installation of germicidal jelly dispensers outside of bathrooms, which was a good idea) and "Plague City", I'm ready to laugh again..
Shadow Court It's a stage play about a LARP written by a guy I used to LARP with. Apparently, Steve also wrote a play called Quintessence; he had a sequel called Angst in the works, but that got cancelled due to lack of interest (ba.dum.Ching!). Stay tuned for his next play, Blood Points.
Shakespeare's NHL (National History League) A selection of The Histories of WS written as a hockey season. Two great tastes that taste great together. I mean, I'm a fan of bloody, violent dramas that seem to go on forever, and I LOVE Shakespeare, too!
Hello? Anyone? Come on, I know you're out there, I can hear you breathing.
S.M.I.L.E. while you D.I.E.! Not a musical, but a comedy about call centre life. So, I'll hve to see if I can still laugh about it. On the plus side, the creator has been keeping an LJ about it. So that's good.
The Fall of Team Justice"Atomic Legion Theatre is an art collective hoping to bring the comic book medium to life this summer at Fringe!" Sold! To the bald fat guy in the hawaiian shirt!
