Dec. 17th, 2003 07:28 pmIn the mid afternoon, my neck is killing me. Have completed most of the day's correspondence, which is a mixed blessing. Good in that it's off the phones, bad in that on quiet days I miss the opportunity to take a chance to read.
Finished an abbreviated SG-1 review (short 350 word beast done on a whim for free). That is quite some sweet book. Shame the sourcebooks will likely suck (
pyat will know the subtle character assassination of which I speak).
Took my lunch at Burger King, the Home of the Whopper. They've reinstituted Whopper Wednesdays, which is basically cheap burger day. I recall they had the same gimmick (same price, too) a decade ago. At that thought, I was drop kicked by the big books of nostalgia, my oldest friend.
At least I THINK he's my oldest friend. I'm pretty sure he's never paid me for all those pizza nights I covered, not to mention he was likely sneaking behind my back with the Sailor Bitch.
Motherfucker. I'm gonna kick his ass next time I see him.
For some time, they were selling all whoppers for $1.69 all the time a while ago. If I'd had that much flow, I would have been in heaven. Yum.
A package is waiting for me at the postal office, so I'm presuming it's either a review item or (more likely) an order for Chapters including
mr_weasel's holiday present. Have not received merch from a certain review client this month, which is worrying. Neither have I heard from them regarding a story I'm doing for GU.
Three days until Halo for the Holidays. Snra. Bitter has a mad, mad, mad idea for placing the second TV that may require I kill her. Hopefully not. Still need a crossover cable. We should have enough people for several good 8 player games. I foresee tanks in our future. Of the invitees, 60% have LJs. I find this an interesting, if meaningless statistic.
Attended the masquerade/dinner at Medieval Times last night. The Masquerade, while not quite qualifying as four star, had cluster fuck-ish qualities about it. Committee gave contradictory info to the manager, not to mention the 'who are you again' syndrome that results from overly causing issues in the organization and final production of the masquerade, resulting in, well, no small amount of acrimony.
The Dinner & a show was interesting. Okay the show was interesting. Dinner was variably too salty, too moist, too dry or too skinny. I do admire any place that gives you chicken n' ribs with no utensils, however; very medieval, or at least Kansas. Another piece or two of bread to go with the soup might have also been nice.
The show was standard fare, with Gondor and Rohan substituted for standard Medieval place names. What was amusing was that shortly after I hollered "kick him inna nuts!" to the black and white knight he did, in fact, kick his opponent in the nuts. That's service! We missed the introductory 'capture of Gollum' bit, which kinda sucked.
Our guy won, but there was duplicity, etc, etc. I was curious how we were supposed to be shocked by the duplicity of a guy with a bad Medieval Mullet, backed up by a quartet of guys dressed up as The Gimp from Pulp Fiction. I could not find my terror.
In the end, he was sentenced to death by fog machine, and the kingdom of Middle Earthsville was free. Huzzah!
The scent of horse crap was, of course, unbearable.
