Man, Larry Flynt is my hero. I loved that movie about him.

Sorry, I'm in Porn-stralia these days. Got porn on my brain. Wanna kill Ron Jeremy and steal his life. Yeaahhh. The penis reduction surgery would be a bitch, though.

Here's a question: How much better off was the Science FIction genre when we had actual scientists writing instead of, say, ex-business writers (no, Gary, I'm not fucking talking about YOU) and lifelong SF fans (ditto)? Was it better off when we had people creating interesting things instead of spending significant portions of their time writing press releases about their new book?

Feh. Dunno.

In other news, Buffy game may be disintigrating. Ah, well.

Report card season going well. I'll be out of house Saturday to let Snra. Bitter work.

Evil is prepping to leave the country. That's good.

I used to live in Cincinnati. There is a definate love/hate relationship with Larry in that city. :-)

That's where it all started. "The People vs. Larry Flynn" is based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The sheriff in the movie is still the Sheriff in Hamilton County (where Cincinnati is based).

At one time, Larry was going to go to Fountain Square (the center of downtown) to sell a big issue of Hustler. The police were ready, since Pandering Obscenity is still a crime in Hamilton County. My wife was there on her lunch break - Larry has changed all the signs to "Free", and was GIVING HUSTLER AWAY. Since he wasn't selling it, technically they couldn't arrest him.

Since then, there has been a Hustler store in downtown Cincinnati. Sure, it changes locations (as the police come up with new ways to bust the place, and Larry comes up with new loopholes to open it somewhere else), but it's there. It's a very interesting love/hate relationship.

Three more amusing footnotes:

1) I've since moved to St. Louis, Missouri. Right over the river from the city (on the main road you take from Cincinnati to St. Louis) is "Larry Flynt's Hustler Club". It's like a small slice of home.

2) Cincinnati (and indeed, that same sheriff) also busted the notorious Maplethorpe exhibit under the same obscenity laws.

3) Columbus, Ohio (two hours north, and home of Origins) does not have a law disallowing women to go topless in public.
