Okay, man. Today, I bought two books that absolutely blew me out of the water. The Sandman preview for the new TPB (dude, they had RAO in it. And that bit was AWESOME) and JLA/Avengers #1.
JLA/Avengers... oh, man. Perfect. Sublime. Sure, "The Grandmaster sets up a competition thing" is older than the Mini-Series format, but the pairing of him up with Metron?
The various artifacts were wonderfully chosen. You realize, reading this, how much more DANGEROUS the Marvel universe is. I mean, The Ultimaet Nullifer, right from there. Then the Cosmic Cube, the Soul Gems... Man. Plus, you get a view of the the whole 'mutant hysteria' thingy, and the general hostility of the populace to supers through the eyes of Dc characters. Then, the Avengers travel to the DCU with it's significantly sunnier disposition.
The crossover bits make me giggle. Lobo vs the Imperial Guard? Skrulls invading Thanagar? Khunds laying the smackdown on... Someone? Batman slapping the Punisher down like a red-headed stepchild? So very sweet. The JLA vs Terminus? Avengers vs Starro?
Five will get you ten they're mind controlled. I think Hawkeye is onto something, when you think about how Cap & Supes are behaving (although the lack of subtlety in the fact someone mentions it each time grates. Ah, well). Much love in that. Can't wait for issue #2.
