So, it appears that Decipher is coming back from the dead with a new game designed to change the way we play CCGs forever.

What's interesting is the sheer depth of licenses they seem to have acquired.

It does appear to be a sort of CCG Hoo'd Win, which I can only endorse enthusiastically.

I do want to get a Tyler Durden deck. And an Achilles deck. And let them fight.

Tyler Durder vs. Drizzt D'urden!

That site confuses me. A revolution in gaming! We no longer get sold in stores!

I can totally understand not wanting to get involved with the gaming distribution channel - it's messed up in many ways, especially from the perspective of a smaller company. But presenting web sales as a revolution in marketing seems a little... 1997?

It's the pyramid-scheme game. I thought it was an April Fool's joke originally, 'cause they launched April 1st of last year. :/

My impression is that they *aren't* dealing with rights. It's up to the player to decide who they are playing with. I guess, then, that anyone seeking to lob a lawsuit has to aim at the individual player rather than the company... sorta like how recording companies can't manage to nail down Torrent sites because it's the user and not the facilitator that's technically breaking laws.

Yeah, the MLM aspect of the "game" really turned me off there.

... and this page is really kind of creepy (http://whatisfk.decipher.com/fightklub/blog/2008/2/28/fight-klub-girls).

This is completely wrong, but I don't know if it's you being wrong or Decipher being wrong.

Oh, it could very well be me being wrong. But this was implied during the original advertising, which said players could playing ANYONE they wanted to - it was all up to them...

That just sounds like standard advertising patter, frankly. "You can play ANYBODY YOU WANT!

It's entirely Decipher's responsibility, and frankly this is so basic an issue I'm sure Decipher haven't dealt with it as opposed to committing outright multiple copyright violations.

Where is their list of licenses?

Yeah, I looked over and they seem to have a lot of ... licenses of movies from the 1980s and early 1990s.

By "a lot of" I mean about a half dozen or so.

Well, they say that the initial set will have four "heroes" and four "villains." The heroes are, judging by the cards:

Ash from Evil Dead / Army of Darkness
Tank Girl
Chev Chelios from Crank
John Rambo

The villains are

Hannibal Lecter
Eve from Species
the Saw Killer from Saw
and somebody else, possibly Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs

That's a pretty reasonable start.

After alienating me after a decade of buying their stuff, they return with the lamest idea for a card game ever!

Sigh.

It's been ... interesting. If you need to get to look in further just say that koipond sent you in the middle box (seriously it makes me feel kind of lame for saying that) but I jokingly signed up to be a founding member and didn't think I would make the cut (I didn't fill out the questionnaire) but I did.

It's been ... an interesting exercise in exclusivity. Great fodder for what I'm not going to be doing with the DCG.
