Comics and Burritos, Part XVII
Dec. 19th, 2008 05:04 pmSo since Cynra had her school Christmas party on Wednesday night, I decided to treat myself to dinner at Chorizo and a little comics shopping.
I hadn't gotten to go to Dragon Lady for a couple weeks (game on hiatus), so I picked up a few things, plus a few things that mildly interested me.
I picked up a few Dark Reign books, including the new Fraction Iron Man, the "here's a bunch of stuff!" book, including good news in the form of a preview for a new Agents of ATLAS book.
The Dark Reigns one shot did not thrill. Maleev's art seemed off, particularly in his depiction of Namor (the Internet agrees with me, kids). It reads like Acts of Vengeance, only without the interesting factor. I do have to get the new Thor to figure out what's going on with Asgard and why Loki's hot now.
As to the mysterious shadowed figure in the doorway? Don't care.
Look, I may pick up whatever happens with the Runaways and Young Avengers in trade, but for now it's done nothing to draw me in. I'm still gonna be picking up pretty much strictly Fraction Man, Hulk, Herc, and Annihilation trades.
Oh, speaking of! I nearly had a freaking conniption when I saw the Nova HC. I thought they'd released that INSTEAD of releasing 8-12 in a tpb, but it turned out I'd just missed the trade (due to my FLCS going tits up). Whew! God knows I have NO intention of buying Nova 4-7 again, unless it's with the money I make selling Joe Quesada's organs on the black market.
I also got the first issues of Spider-Man and X-Men Noir. It's a cute little experiment Marvel is making of releasing minis of Film Noir-esque versions of their characters.
I will probably get them in trade, if at all. It seems to be a bit too much clever buggers. Although they have found a setting where the Enforcers are not a tremendously shitty idea.
I also got the DC Universe Christmas special, which was fairly unmemorable, other than a Huntress story that had some lettering gaffes and a Secret Origin of Santa Claus that made him into Superman. It was... silly.
I also got Buffy 20, issue 2 of Star Trek: the Last Generation (and may I say Sulu has kept himself remarkably well preserved) and something else. Has the Franklin Richards Christmas Special come out yet?
The burrito was okay, but the guy putting it together was not an ace wrapper yet, and left it a little loose.

Date: 2008-12-20 02:34 am (UTC)Booster Gold is a neat book with lots of time traveling shenanigans.
I'm fond of the Annihilation series, which has lots of cosmic fun to be had.
I read the Buffy book because it's a continuation fo the TV show and I am a sad little man. I don't read the Angel book, in spite of that fact, because it is horrible.
IDW does neat media tie-in books, of varying qualities.
There's a new Superman arc out where he finally grows the bottle city of Kandor. It appears to not be going well.
The majority of stuff in both universe is pretty much drek, of course.
If you're looking for something fun and a little fantastic that ain't long underwear, Scott Pilgrim is a series about a Toronto slacker who finds the girl of his dreams, but before they can be together he must first battle The League of her Evil Exes.
