Summer, summer, movie daaayyy

Ain't nothing better in the world I know that going to a movie on my cross border day oooooff...

Anyway, we did it. We saw WAY too many trailers (American Wedding 2x, LXG 2x, etc, etc).

Still upset that they slipped Tom Sawyer into the League film. Sure, they're all literary figures, but they're all, in one sense or another, monsters. Fallen hero, rebel against the crown, 'violated woman', etc. Tom Sawyer is just... too clean.

Really, what's his power? His "mean, mean stride"?

I mean, really.

(laugh at that last bit, kids. It's the best I've had in days)

Anyway, we saw T3 & CA2.

Man, T3. It just ain't as good now. I mean, they could have done much the same by busting into Jim Cameron's house, taking turns holding him down and pissing on him.

That, and I wonder: Why the hell do basic combat chassis units have teeth? I mean, really. [livejournal.com profile] mr_weasel thinks it's for efficiency, so they can yank them off the assembly line and use them for T101s. Which makes sense, until you realize bipedal is just a shitty way to go. Make dedicated infiltrator units (here's an idea: Pack the fuckers full of explosives!), and make the combat units on treads or crab legs or something.

Damn. The Matrix was so much a better idea.

Look, it didn't SUCK. It was enjoyable. There was lots of Robot on Robot action, and it proves that a machine can love (and that T101 power sources are, well, damn unstable). The TX was interesting, but do you REALLY need to pull the 'kill them and take their stuff' when you show up in a Woman's Clothing Store? Hello?

CA2: More of CA. They shouldn't have pimped Demi Moore as the villain, as they nearly keep it concealled that she's actually evil (as opposed to irrelevant) until the final act. Like the first, the character motivations seem to be 'man, were we STUPID'.

The action sequences were fun, and while it's nice to see Crispin Glover back, his stuff made none of the sense.

The openning title was nice, though. I like that they actually took the trouble to do a setup for the characters, instead of that shit they did for Mission Impossible with frames from the film.

CA2 wins the Summer movie prize. T3 offended me, morally.

Damn.

I knew T3 was going to violate the corpse of the Terminator franchise, knew that it was all about a sad and desperate attempt to give Arnold one last bout of fame before he gets into the steel cage match with Gov Davis, and knew without a doubt that it would offend the part of me that still remembers the 80’s fondly.

I knew it, but I kept hoping against hope that it would not be so.

See, I’m now a late 20 something (as of Monday I’ll be a very very late 20 something) who played RPGs, watched wrestling, and listened to heavy metal through the 80s and early 90s. Think I was an Arny fan? Think I loved the Terminator movies?

T3 isn’t James Cameron being held down and pissed on dude, it’s my childhood that has been targeted for urination.
