Let me tell you, occasionally you forget how awesome the show could be at its height.

But watching Last Exit to SPringfield reminds me that this is pretty much a perfect half hour of comedy. Bits lead through each other, and it's all based on one specific plot.

It's all so incredibly awesome.

This was a highlight.

Oh, God. A Get Smart/Batman reference. And Burns just kicked a dog!

Moby Dick! The Grinch!

Instant riot.

Rock.

That episode is indeed a perfect half hour of comedy. It might be the best episode of the Simpsons ever made.

I remember I watched the show for the first time in University when I sat through the episode about censoring Michaelangelo's David against my will. I wanted to hate it, I really did. But I've yet to see any text, no matter how scholarly, deep or well written that better laid out the problems and contradictions with censorship and reflexive opposition to it - I was going to say that it was like getting a whole media awareness course in a half an hour, but it wasn't - cause it also said all the things that I feared in my heart of liberal hearts but no media teacher would ever admit. And it was funny - and that was still early days so it would get funnier - when it was good, there was nothing like it...

It helps also that the title is a Hubert Selby Jr. reference. :D

"Lisa needs braces""dental plan""Lisa needs braces""dental plan""Lisa needs braces""dental plan"

I don't find that the more recent seasons are as good as their older ones but in their day the Simpsons were genius. Even now I am still amused enough to watch the show whenever I come across it on tv :)

Ah , brilliant! I wanted to post this song to my blog last year for some occasion but didn´t find a video or such. (I guess the occasion was that I once again couldn´t stop singing it. *haha )
This definitely was one of the major highlights! :-)
