Writer's Block: Spirits

What's odd is that we had absinthe_dot_ca and vampyrehunterm over for dinner last night (and to be destroyed in Scene it! DESTROYED! GORMAN! kinra! I challenge you!), and vampyrehunterm mentioned she'd had a desire to try out paranormal investigating as a career, even though she's never had an encounter with Spirits Beyond.

The only spirits I've ever had an encounter with have been grain based, if you get my drift. Or possibly grape. Seriously, I don't believe in ghosts.

I neither believe nor disbelieve, as I have no particular evidence either way (not having seen something isn't enough evidence for me, as I have never seen oxygen, but I have faith that it exists).

However, I would really like to be a paranormal investigator, especially on one of those tv shows, because at the very least I could do a much more creditable fake than they do.
I mean, fer chrissakes, have a little imagination, y'know?

I don't, either, but my whole family does. Mom, grandma, aunt, wife, wait, weird? Correction: All the women in my family do. My grandmother tries to speak to me of messages from my uncle Marc, and my grandfather. I wish she wouldn't.

I had a waking dream one night that my pony was talking to me from beyond the grave. (She had been put to sleep earlier that week.) But even my younger mystical-hippie-Jesus-freak self was usually skeptical about such things, and knew there was no proof for it being anything other than a dream.

Today I guess I hold out a little candle of hope that there might be an afterlife or that we don't cease to exist when we die (and if that were true, it wouldn't preclude the possbility of earthbound ghosts), but in general I don't believe in any of it.

I love reading and writing fiction set in worlds where there are ghosts and reincarnation and heaven and hell and whatnot.

Having had no paranormal encounters of my own to speak of is part of the reason I'm helping her do it - to see if there's anything out there. That, and it means I get to buy new toys. :-D
