That was a heck of a thing. I was at one of the local comics shops on Bank Street. This one (http://thecomicbookshoppe.com/), in fact. The ride home was somewhat more eventful than being there, of course, and I have to admit that it was strangely restful.
I was thinking about that today and because it's been so cold there really isn't a chance of the power supply being streched so thin due to excessive use of air conditioners this summer. Perhaps the Earth is correcting our screw ups since most people cannot self correct ;)
Wow, has it been five years? I remember that week - started off by prepping to host a "computer camp" (including staying up to 3am to catalog the parts in 6 Lego Mindstorms kits), transitioned into a major virus crisis, and then finished the week with the deafening silence of a powered-down computer facility.
The good thing that came out of it was that vampyrehunterm discovered one of the reasons why gas stoves are much better than electric.
Actually, no, that was the OTHER auspicious day of the early 21st century, September 11th, 2001. The largest coordinated terrorist attack on North American soil, and I spend the day running around in a powder-blue astronaut outfit.
I was in prison. There was a blip and my computer shut down, then power came back on. It wasn't until I left and was driving home, noticing that not a single traffic light was functioning, and then hearing the true extent of things, that I realized it had been the back up generators.
Had a nice evening of barbequing with everyone who cared to come over, and power was restored not much past dark. Didn't get much stargazing out of it, unfortunately.
