I was flipping through some of adders posts earlier, and saw this comment craigoxbrow left in his LJ.

I managed to break a Who panelist at Recombination last year. We were talking about relative fandoms, classic Who fans leaning towards Lit SF and new Who fans including a lot of Buffy people, and I extemporised the following theory.

Rose is Angel - the One True Love that ends in tragedy and heartache. Martha is Riley - logically a better match, but the title character isn't ready to commit. A lovestruck Donna, therefore, would be Spike.

I then had to take her to the bar and buy her a drink.

Interesting observation on that.

So in the miniseries Donna is going to try to rape the Doctor?

Thematically, it would be appropriate.

One big problem with that theory.

Riley was like the worst character ever, and Martha is the best companion of the new set.

She's a great character, and I want to see more of her on Torchwood.

However, I wouldn't say she's a great companion. The Doctor tends to overshadow her.

Really? Because I'm pretty sure on more than one occasion she all but saved the day on her own.

And The Doctor overshadows all his companions, really.

No, the doctor let her save the day on her own. Except for that wandering the world thing, which really wasn't like a companion.

The other companions since the reboot have strengths the doctor doesn't have, and have saved the day using those.
