Monday morning burst transmission

It's weird, but for a Monday, I don't really mind being here. I'm sure that will change over the next few hours.

I've done some reading about the D&D day events, and it sounds like the DM we had went kind of easy on us. Apparently the statues in the second last room weren't supposed to activate until the Big Bad showed up, and the Big Bad was supposed to be on a pedestal.

Not revered or anything. On an actual "ten feet off the ground" pedestal. Which would have made hitting him harder.

I will not complain.

I've been re-reading some comics lately. The Dr. Who books from IDW are interesting, but seem kind of strangely paced; a couple issues seem to just stop. When comic doctor says something, you really realize how odd the dialogue is when it isn't being delivered by Tennant's goofy face.

Sometimes I think the show should start "The Dr. Who Temporal Adventure Hour is brought to you by Audiex Sonic Screwdrivers!" That gadget has almost transcended into a plot device by now.

I've gone over the Messiah Complex HC a few more times. I've been out of the X-Loop since.. Wow, a long time. It is still pretty easy to get back into the swing of things with general knowledge (and the "previously on X-Men" blurb inside the book cover).

Still, some questions remain unresolved afterwards which I will ruminate on under the cut.

For example, why the hell did Hepzibah join the X-Men? Did something happen to the Starjammers? I can understand Caliban joining the X-Men, what with the reduction of mutants worldwide to just the main ones (ain't it awesome how ALL the X-Men and ALL the Maruauders kept their powers? How spiffy!)

At the end, it's rather unresolved who exactly the baby is supposed to be. At least for me. I presume a redhead of some kind.

As well, what the heck happened to Layla Miller? And the other Time Travellin' Madrox, too?

Ah, well. Interesting story, and the confusion factor gets reduced by an order of magnitude when you can read it all at once.



Ruminating on the Ultimate Alpha Flight. It may not be as bad as what's been done to them in the main MU, but it's still not making me enthusiastic. At least they're not the only foreign supers getting the shaft.

I can help on a couple of these:

1. Hep joined the X-Men in the wake of a story by Ed Brubaker where Havok, Rachel Summers, Darwin, Warpath, Nightcrawler and Xavier went after the insane third Summers brother, who was taking over the Shi'ar Empire. They were, ultimately, unsuccessful, and Corsair died in the midst of the fight, leading to Havok and Rachel staying behind to lead the 'Jammers. Hep, who was revealed as Corsair's lover, was brought to Earth unwillingly, as her shuttlecraft was launched toward us by former Empress Lilandra.

2. The Madrox double who travelled to the future was killed, as that was the only way the knowledge he'd gained there could be transferred to the "real" Madrox. But, the double's M scar was also transferred.

3. Layla remains trapped in the future as far as I know, but, an upcoming one-shot will chronicle her role in the Summers Rebellion.

It's not exactly sure what it is, but the event has been mentioned as a turning point in the nondescript future; I think Bishop made mention of it when he first entered this timeline. Also, I believe, in the Age of Apocalypse timeline, that the Scott Summers of that era led a rebellion against Mr. Sinister.

The baby is a red headed girl Omega Class (read that: powerful-as-all-Hell) mutant.

Who do we know who fits that bill who isn't around now and by her namesake has a history of coming back from past the edge of oblivion?

Oh, yes they did. They haven't made it official yet, but they did.

"The Doctor's Daughter" felt like it came off the rails in the second half. Or maybe it was edited wrong for Sci-Fi's purposes. And the bit where people think the Doc & Donna are "together" is really starting to feel old, when you consider he used to walk hand-in-hand with Rose.

From what I understand:

1) Layla's story, and that of the timeline the other Madrox visited, are to be explored later in X-Factor (Layla's in a one-shot, dunno about the other Madrox).

2) Hezibpah joined the X-Men after Corsair died (killed by Vulcan, the 3rd Summers Brother). The rest of the Starjammers are still alive as I understand it, but she was separated from them.

3) Yes, it is extremely cheesy that all the mutants in the world... except every member of the X-Men, Marauders, NYX, and pretty well almost any ongoing team at or near the time of Decimation, kept their powers. Most of those that lost them have already gained them back. Unless they were teen mutants, then they're canon-fodder.

The New X-Men actually looked kind of intersting. I might pick up the trade for them when it comes out.

It is very odd that there were two Madroxi sent forward in time, but we only saw one of them.
