Steady day in the office. My body-tears were flowing a bit this morning after the shower, and there's nothing quite as enthusiasm bringing as coming into the office damp. Grey is probably the worst colour in the world to hide it, too.

At least I didn't pass any execs or managers en route.

Good things: Today's Don't Quote Me on the Puzzles page of the Star (well, yesterday's Star for everyone else) is all quotes from Die Hard. Yay!

I'm wondering something, though, and I wonder if this is a good venue to bring it up: Is Shock Treatment really a better movie than Rocky Horror Picture Show?

I think so. Personally, I've found that RHPS isn't very good if you don't have the strange carnival like atmosphere of a live showing around you. Plus, you've usually been drinking, and that always helps. But watching it sober, aside from a strange propensity to mutter "asshole" and "slut" under your breath, it isn't really that enjoyable. Strong performers all around, but still a bit of a mess.

Shock Treatment, while not a lot better, has a slightly more interesting (and possibly more relevant) plot, and while I can't recall but one song from it, I think I liked Little Black Dress quite a bit.

I dunno. I know it never gained the universal recognition of RHPS, but it still has more to offer, I think, about the desire for fame and how commercialism can affect you.

And everyone remember, World D&D day tomorrow. I know I'm going, after a stupidly early wakeup to go biking.

Ah, Shock Treatment. One of my favourites. My favourite songs include:

Denton U.S.A. (Enjoy your stay, have a happy holiday. Have a Denton Denton Denton Denton Day)
Night Night (it's time for bye byes. It's been a great day thanks a heap. But now it's time....for everyone....to go to sleep.)
Bitchin' in the Kitchen (and cryin in the bedroom aaaall night)
Thanks God I'm a Man (Faggots are maggots, thank god I'm a man)
Shock Treatment (Gimme gimme shock treatment)

I love this movie and was thrilled when I found it. Didn't really care for it upon first viewing but it grew on me and while Rocky Horror is a classic for the obvious reasons you already stated, this little gem has something more to offer. The perversity is greater, the corruption more complete. Sex is one of the simplest forms of corruption. This is about ego and is downright cultish when you think about it.

Plus, my big treat was years later learning that Rik Mayall played Rest Home Ricky in it and you get to see him singing and dancing. LOL.

Depends on what turns you on. I think that the parody of 70s and 80s television works well, and that the songs are more intricate (if less catchy). On the other hand, I think the performances and characterizations in Rocky stand well above. Shock Treatment is a "cooler" script, and tries too hard to trap the same lightning in a bottle that RH(P)S did.

Shock Treatment is my single favorite film ever made. When I worked in a video store, back when video stores were economically viable, I began every working day watching that movie. I will never get sick of it. It has great music, a delightful conceit, high weirdness, and is just a damn lot of fun. It clicks with me more than anything else I've ever seen.

But Rocky is a better movie.
