Writer's Block: Happy Earth Day

This question annoys me, as I'm pretty sure a) Earth is a proper noun, and usually capitalized and B) "The Earth's Environment" is pretty redundant unless you work in space.
Now, personally, I do what I can. We're trying to cut back as far as we can on waste. Reduction is kinda tough, but we have a good disposal system in Mill-Town now and we're taking advantage of the greencart to supplement our own composter. We're using higher efficiency appliances, and Cynra & I are carpooling using Supercar when we can.
We're also reducing our use of cleaning products that have environment residues (chlorine and other ickies) where we can.
The local Real Canadian Superstore has also stopped offering plastic bags, so we pretty much always have a reusable on us. We're also making use of our local farmer's market, so we have slightly less "food with airmiles on it" on the menu.
It's all about little bits. We're not able to jump off the grid or resort to only taking transit. Sure, that would be nice, but absurdly inconvenient or outrageously expensive.
But we do what we can, and always try to do a little bit more.

Date: 2008-04-23 08:17 pm (UTC)You are correct overall. In that context, Earth should have been capitalized. There are other uses when it's not, such as speaking of moving earth in contruction, or otherwise speaking of dirt and soil as "earth".
