If you've ever wondered by Stan Lee's characters tended to be troubled humans with incredible abilities, versus the gods walking above humanity of the Distinguished Competition, wonder no more!

Perhaps you thought it was a storytelling measure on his part to make his characters more identifiable to his readers. Or perhaps you thought it was because he was attempting to bring an innate humanity to his works.

Nah. It's really simple. Smilin' Stan is a Democrat!

Mark "Shit" Steyn explains it all:

I met (Stan Lee) briefly at the Democratic convention in Los Angeles in 2000: yes, he's a Democrat — why do you think comic-book heroes gave up truth, justice and the American way to sit around on rooftops like Spidey riddled with self-doubt about whether their awesome powers are a blessing or a curse?

Obviously, the troubles of the Marvel heroes reflect the Democrats' own innate hatred of America.

Thanks, Mark! We love to hearn from an expert like you!

Mr. Steyn...well, he's already explained his problems(whilst not seeing them as such). To be expected, like Michael Coren standing by the proposed "McVety Clause" of Bill C-10 in today's Ottawa Sun, really.

I am reminded of the two plaques at Democrat headquarters on the Simpsons:

We can't govern.

We hate life, and ourselves.

DC: Well you know Batman is a guaranteed John McCain voter. Superman, Obama all the way. Wonder Woman isn't a US citizen, but I'd say Hillary. Green Lantern? depends on which one. The Question has to be Libertarian.

Marvel: Punisher: What do you think? McCain is too moderate for him but he'll settle. Tony Stark is a bigtime neocon Republican. Captain America is a Truman Democrat, and I'd guess was a John Edwards fan. Spidey, seems to waffle in the wind, probably Obama right now. Wolverine's Canadian. Cyclops, etc? Whichever candidate is soft on mutants. Reed Richards, republican. Basically whoever was pro-reg in Civil War voted for Bush and would vote McCain.

Hawkeye I/Ronin II having been on both sides of the legal fence, I think he'd be voting Independent, unless a really good case was made for a particular candidate.

Stark's been on both sides of the war debate, as well. His position changed with the evidence available to him. Although I do wonder how some readers take his current UN role as SHIELD Director.

Batman wouldn't vote McCain. Batman is smart enough to recognize that McCain's proposals fundamentally don't work. However, nor would he vote for Obama or Clinton.

Batman, as has been pointed out before, writes in "Batman."

Batman is too cynical to vote.

Which is funny, as he has enough money to put a candidate in his back pocket.

I always wondered about that. He has to be aware of how he could easily manipulate local, state, and federal politics; he runs an enormous American corporation, he's got billions upon billions of dollars, and he's famous and beloved. Why WOULDN'T he be using that to game the political system, especially back when Gotham was corrupt?

Well, he very well can't get vengeance on the guy who killed his father that way, now can he?

"Mr. Wayne Goes to Washington?"

I just always wondered. Gotham as Frank Miller writes it is so corrupt that I think at first it'd be pointless. But as the forces of good got some traction...

It could be that he'll just assume that any candidate he'd get through would be just as corrupt.

Now he could run, but he couldn't very well be Batman that way, now could he?

Ummmmm...no. I think he'd abstain. Consider the chance that if it got out that, if he named a candidate that he actually believed capable doing the work(whether he did so as either Bruce or Bats), that candidate would have the life expectancy of a mayfly.

The Punisher actually self-identified as Republican in one of the comics a while back, protecting a very thinly veiled Rush Limbaugh clone (this was pre-oxycontin), FWIW.
