Over on Matthew Colville's blog, there's a review of The Black Hole.

I know I have talked about Disney's live action films with some of you, and this film in particular. It's odd, but my memories of The Black Hole seem to consist entirely of the comic book adaptaion. I 'm not sure if I've ever actually SEEN the film.

The Black Hole, perhaps because it was as poorly done as it was, nevertheless leaves quite an impression. There's something positively creepy and "not right" about it that's enhanced by the fact that it's this weird jumble of miscasting, pretentiousness, and Disney pabulum. I know, as a child, I found the movie a bit disturbing because it didn't seem to make sense to me, even though I was convinced that it did in fact make sense and I just missed a crucial line or something while I was getting more popcorn.

I think I still have it on VHS, though Lord only knows how it's held up.

This doesn't make you unique, actually. I could swear I have memories of that film that simply don't exist.

My big argument is "The Watcher in the Woods" is better than people would think from a Disney horror film, especially since you never see the creature!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - just pretend it WAS made in 1955, and it suddenly becomes the greatest SF movie ever. :)

Whoah, blast from the past....

I did see this one, a long time ago. My main memory is that it had potential, but I was left feeling that if it hadn't been a Disney production there might have been more to it.

Now I want to go see it again. Thanks.
