Does anyone who's out there in the Southern Ontario region know what a normal cost for daycare for a one year old is?

This is, unfortunately, for a friend of mine.

It depends on whether it's co-op, and where you are. Daycares in Toronto are about triple the cost of daycares outside the GTA, and if you're someplace like Hagersville, they can be very cheap indeed.

Agreed!! Certainly this is true. I have seen people pay as low as $80 a week and as high as $300+ a week. Shop around is my advice.

I have an aunt who works and is connected with daycare associations and has run them before. I can maybe give her a call but she is in Mississauga.

If they want licensed daycare and they're in your neck of the woods, they're likely to pay between fifty and sixty dollars per day. The cost will diminish slightly when the baby hits 18 months, because the law requires a higher ratio of workers to kids below that age. In fact, it may be difficult to find a spot for a child under eighteen months.

If licensed care isn't possible for whatever reason, the next best thing is a home-based centre that is licensed by one of several home agencies. In a home-based setting, you can expect to pay between thirty and forty dollars a day, depending on location and how many other kids the family is taking.

I know the person/people in question are licensed and do home based care. Anything more than that is a mystery to me. They care for like groups of kids 4 or 5 at a time and don't park them in front the TV. They actually do well planned and guided crafts and activities.

Guelph prices go from about $800 (very rare) to about $1000 a month for full time daycare in a daycare facility, or you can do something like Wee Watch which is government trained and certified home care, which is about $800 a month. Don't know about Milton...

Our unlicensed babysitter (trained in ECE in Sweden) charged about $4/hour.

McMaster's Children's Centre, which we use 3 days a week is about %500/month for toddlers on up (they aren't yet set up for infants as young as 1).
