So, I got the first book in the Scott Pilgrim series because [livejournal.com profile] kinra told me I should. Interesting book, although the story drags a bit. It's about a slacker who's in a band and dating a girl who I beleive is barely not in the statutory rape category. It gets interesting when he meets an Amazon.ca deliverygirl (wait, they have their own crew of delivery people?) and begins to have kung fu battles with her ex-boyfriends. All right, I can deal with that.

Hopefully there's less emo slacker stuff (you wanna see that? Go here and enjoy) and more fighting guys in later editions. Or am I missing some clever Manga riff?

Also finished The Long Halloween (and discovered that MPL is a bit slow when it comes to reminding people of books being overdue). Not sure why [livejournal.com profile] granolademonic disliked it so. It was an interesting bit, with a cute gimmick and it served to explain why Harvey Dent got splashed in the face with acid by a gangster when Gotham's criminal element seems mostly to consist of crazy people, cat burglars and alleyway muggers.

As I mentioned, I got the first TPB for X-Men First Class. Enjoyable book, and a good set of fun stories about the X-Men's early days.

Also read Shellshocked, the first compilation of Blue Beetle books. Enjoyable. I'm not sure where the plotting was divided between Rogers and Giffen, but it was fun. Good way to introduce a new character into the DCU. I particularly like how he shined off Oracle. Can't wait to get the next book.

Haven't read "The Long Halloween" in a while, but I remember it being pretty solid. It makes you wonder what happened to Jeph Loeb.

The current "Blue Beetle" is a book I've got a strong affection for, partially because it reminds me of DC's early-90s books in terms of tone. It's definitely got a great gimmick; I love how it's essentially a buddy comedy except one of the "buddies" is the costume itself. Also I think Jamie Reyes is a well-rendered character with a family and a "I'm not even supposed to be here today!" attitude about half the time.

Blue Beetle is the best superhero comic on the stands right now.

At the store, Scott Pilgrim's pretty much a favorite. If it helps any, while the first graphic novel's good it really gets rolling in the second one. I found a good chuckle just about on every page on the recently-released fourth trade.

Listen, buddy, granolademonic ain't about to be questioned by some filthy Canadian.

...alright, I will be, but only because I want attention.

It wasn't bad, I just thought it as great as people made out, and while my memories of the twist with the wife are dim, I remember it seemed unconvincing.

Also, I hated Scott Pilgrim.
