So yeah, Halloween. We don't do much for the day; we have a scarecrow we put in the front flower garden and some smaller ones that we put around the maple in the front yard. We only got our pumpkins on the weekend, and just cut them last night.

Or tried to. The big pumpkin cut easily enough, but two of the three smaller ones seem to have been molded from concrete.

Anyway, Cynra & I met up at the local Costco and picked up treats (she's so conscientious, she wouldn't let me get a particular box because it was not peanut free). We had dinner there, so there goes my fall poutine.
One the way home I stopped at Canadian Tire and picked up a couple boxes of peanut free candies. So tonight it's Rice Krispie Treats, chips, chocolates, and a special extra for some of the kids.

You see, a lifetime ago when I was working in Napanee, we got a few boxes of free comics to give to kids to encourage them not to use drugs. Being a bit of a nerd/entrepreneur, I figured that since they were Canadian (Spider-Man meets a hockey legend and fights crime) they'd be of value to Yanks.

Plus, they had a McFarlane cover, and we were all a little crazy for him at that time.

Anyway, the result is I've had a few dozen copies of Spider-Man: Skating on Thin Ice sitting around for almost two decades. So, we're gonna give those out to the kids too. It appears we're participating in Comics 4 Halloween and didn't even know it.

Comics for Halloween sounds like fun! I'd love to do books for Halloween but I think most kids wouldn't like that, plus I don't have money to buy a lot of books... Perhaps when I'm more settled :)

Are scarecrows a Halloween themed thing where you're from? I'd never noticed the connection before - but today a trick or treating kid (hm, I say kid, he was probably 15/16) knocked on our door dressed as a scarecrow.

Actually, I only know that because I asked. Basically, he had a tracksuit on with some straw on his face. I think he just couldnt be arsed going to the shops for sweets.

It's an easy costume.

Also, they're damn creepy.

I totally had a copy of that when i was a kid.

ah, the days when anti-drug advertising could be unselfconscious and silly.
