Lost: The Next Day
May. 10th, 2007 10:37 amAh, man. Benry gets his own flashback, and it's a doozy.
And, since this is me, I get to think of things however I want.
So. Dharma is definitely dead, killed by Benry in a nerve gas attack however long ago.
BUT... There are still food drops sent to the island on a regular basis. So some Dharma infrastructure still exists in the outside world.
And Benry leaves Locke to die on a pile of corpses in the jungle. Yes, because there's nothing on THIS island that would help someone heal from a bullet would, just like it wouldn't help a crippled man walk. BENRY IS DOING THE STUPID.
Now, onto the more interesting bit: Roger Workman. No, I'm kidding. Although, yeah, Benry's dad? I never would have called it. I would have assumed his folks were the still unresovled corpses in the cave (which I'll add: Still unresolved).
The actual interesting bit? Richard. Okay, so he has not apparently aged in the decades since he met the young Benry in the woods. He's part of the previous (or at least one previous) group of island inhabitants.
As well, Richard and the other hostiles all walked barefoot into the camp. Anyone get to count their toes? I'm just saying.
So, Richard is obviously someone important within the hierarchy, since he's the one who gets to shuttle on and off the island for recruitment. He brought Juliet onboard, along with Ethan. He went and took images of Juliet's sister and nephew. But he is also working against Benry, such as when he showed Locke how to get his father killed.
Jacob is an empty chair, OR IS HE? So Benry & Locke take a trip down the yellow brick road (and across a line of ash of some kind) to see the Wizard, and they don't even get the smoke and mirrors. Once Locke angrily turns on his flashlight it turns into a mashup of Ghostwatch and Poltergeist.
Back on the beach, paranoia is sinking in. And I honestly don't care. God, I could really go another year before seeing another Kate centered episode, for example. And if Charlie doesnt' make it out of the next ep (Magic 8 ball: Signs Point to Yes!), Christmas came early! And, hell, the fact Sawyer didn't get his redneck ass served up a la carte to the smoke monster once he had his epiphany not only killed a few theories, but it was also very dissapointing.
Sun & Jin? Sure, there's something there. Desmond is interesting, too.
And, once again: Everyone on that frigiin' island has Daddy issues. Jacob is really Sigmund Freud.

Date: 2007-05-10 07:36 pm (UTC)Anywho, I remember thinking when Richard showed up "ah, so Richard is Jacob", but then I looked at the clock and it was only about 25 after 10, so I went "naaaaah". I knew they wouldn't divulge it that early into the ep.

I liked when Ben said "You remember what Birthdays are like, right, Richard?"

I think I might be the only LOST fan who loves Charlie.
