Heroes, Five Years^H^H^H^H One Day Later.

Okay, so we get the Future Past episode of Heroes, and I'll admit it was good. Shenanigans aplenty, and what's up with Parkman? I knew you couldn't trust that pig.

So Bennet was running an underground railroad with Wireless (the only character with an Alter Ego, with the possible exception of Sylar).

What I love is that Hiro thinks it was Sylar, so he's arranging things so that he can take out Sylar. But it's Peter who's destined to create Nuke York. Or is that just after he saved Claire, removing invulnerability from Sylar's repetoire? Damn time travel.

In the abbreviated Fight at the end, Sylar uses his much neglected freezing abilities (picked up from from the father of Molly, the secret weapon in the next episode, at the beginning of the season) while Peter pulls out Nukeyoular Man's powers. Peter's irregular control of his absorbed powers upon initial exposure (he turned invisible automatically upon meeting Claude, and his flight was clumsy at best when he took in Nathat's flight) is why I've been suspecting he'll be the bomb for a while now (particularly since the dream sequence where he, oh, exploded).

In fact, if Sylar gets to Nuke before Petrelli does, it would be better (better in that Sylar tends to be able to focus the abilties he absorbs better than Peter), in addition to being much worse.

Hm. Can Peter absorb abilties Sylar has ingested, or just whatever he's actively using at the time?

I think Peter can absorb powers Sylar has ingested - based on Peter's use of Telekinesis in the fight with Sylar a week or two ago in the Professor's apartment.

Yeah, there's an interesting little catch-22:

In the future, future Hiro didn't know that Claire had been saved. Which means when future Hiro stabbed "Sylar" in the past, it had to be Peter whom he stabbed. Since future Hiro assumed that Sylar survived because he had absorbed Claire abilities, it may mean that Claire was always going to escape Sylar in the past even without future Hiro's intervention, or alternatively, that future Hiro's intervention had already occured. Time travel makes a mess of everything.

Also, did you notice the Haitian has two different powers dampening and memory editing? As far as I know, the only other people with more than one power are Sylar and Peter, though Claude did make that one reference that might be other people with similar abilities.

The future was definitely odd.

Well, Sylar did use telekinesis the first time he met Peter. So that meets the criteria for absorbing an ability that he's actively using.

Power damping and memory editing may be two sides of the same power coin: they're both denying someone access to parts of their brain. He can do power-damping passively, but memory editing takes focus and concentration.

Thank you for pointing out where the freezing powers came from. I'd forgotten that aspect of the Molly Walker case. And the Sylar swerve was EXCELLENT.

Could be, if his power is something like "manipulate other people's brains". It would fit with how Claire and Peter were both almost killed. It implies that anything that interferes with the brains operation interferes with all of their super-powers.

This also fits with Sylar's ability to absorb other powers by doing something with his victim's brains.

Good. Everyone laughed at me at the Heroes panel at Ad Astra when I said Sylar ate the brains.

Umm..... Brains....

The nuke guy can nuke out without destroying himself, so it's part of his powers.

In Iraq, I acquired the first handful of episodes of Heroes. Then, every week thereafter, I would get the latest episode off of the military share drive. There was about five of us that would discuss and drool and wait with baited breath every week. I don't watch 24. I can't get in on Lost chats. But thank you for these posts, because I've had no one to discuss this show with since my return.

Did anyone else think that Future Peter was a bit too Neo, though?
