I ordered a (rather big) book from Chapters.ca three weeks ago. Yes, it says "may take 45 days to ship", but I assumed they were just messing with me.

Oh, no, amigos. They were DEADLY serious. Three weeks later, and it's still telling me I should get it by May 24. Ouch.

At least that way I can read it over the May 24 weekend.

Oh dear. That doesn't bode well. I suspect that "45 days" could be code for "our distributor says they're out of stock and they're waiting for the publisher to reprint". In this particular case, then, I'd say that you could be waiting considerably longer than 45 days...

Can you source it somewhere else? Even if it costs a bit more, I think you'd be well advised to try getting it somewhere else who has a copy in stock and cancelling your chapters.ca order.

If that were the case it would have said temporarily unavailable to order.

The long wait does mean it has to come from the distributor though. And Diamond can be difficult to deal with.

may I point out (just to burst your bubble 'cause I'm good at that kind of thing) that may long weekend is actually may 21st... so... you may not actually even get it on time for that.

Well,

While at work today I took a look around. Looks like there are six total copies of that particular book right now somewhere between our warehouse and Diamonds. So barring total disaster no cancelation of your should happen.
