Man, I thought he was kidding.
Apr. 27th, 2007 10:01 pmOver on RPG.net, there's a guy, Lev Lafayette who's been reviewing old stuff. No, OLD stuff. Like, the newest thing is a New Infinities book.
He recently did Tomb of Horrors. Now, I've enjoyed his work, in the same way I enjoy those fan films I keep showing y'all.
I thought it was a strange art project of some kind, but apparently, I am wrong. He even has an LJ:
tcpip.
I encourage everyone to give it a look. It's... something like fun.

Date: 2007-04-28 02:49 pm (UTC)One of my favorite reviews is this 1999 one of the D&D Basic Set, first edition. (http://www.rpg.net/news+reviews/reviews/rev_1491.html)

Not so! I think it was the end of 1981 when I picked up the D&D Basic and Expert sets (the Moldvay sets), and spent about an irregular two years playing them (including all the old classic modules, B1, B2, B3, X1, X2, X4, X5); about a year into it I ran into some AD&D players so started doing that as well for a couple of years. Then I started going to Unigames (UWA) where (apart from a game of the newly released MERP and Star Trek etc) I ended up in another AD&D game (this time Dragonlance).
Becoming actually old enough to attend uni as a student rather than just a gamer I started a gaming club at Murdoch which, as was my want, was initially heavily orientated around Rolemaster, but not without an annual AD&D mini-gaming con. As the club moved on to GURPS and Champions, AD&D2e came out and I played a bit of it.
After moving to Melbourne I managed to find some WoD gamers which was fun enough, but then discovered another group who were old school AD&D1e players - so we started another game. That one went on for over three years. Eventually we decided to give D&D3e a whirl for a year or so, which was quite mighty...
At the moment I'm playing/running (rotating DMs) AD&D1e in a game that's been going for almost a year; A1-A4, G1-3, D1-3, Q1... I'm thinking about "upgrading" (ha!) after this to AD&D2e and doing a Planescape game..
Crazy talk, I know..

Date: 2007-05-05 11:04 pm (UTC)Well, I do think RQ is a better game overall (although maybe not with D&D3.x) and certainly Glorantha a better game-world than Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft etc, but I've played a lot more xD&D.
