I've got a Google subscription to info about Blood Ties, and one of the sites that keeps coming up is the MC Forum. No, not a site about musical MCs.

It's a forum dedicated to mind control fan fiction. MC fic is just something that hits a little bell in the back of my head that goes 'ping'. I mean, even WingFic isn't as creepy as that. Actually, WingFic will always be hilarious ("no, they're... beautiful"). Unless it's RP Wingfic. I don't need to read ANOTHER story about The Edge growing a pair of wings. Ever.

But MC is one of those things that just strikes me as a big fat ball of badwrongfun. I don't really need to say why, I hope. It's just one of those things that the enjoyment of is one of natures' ways of saying 'beware!'

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

While I agree that MC fic (which I hadn't heard of before, but aren't really suprised by) sums up about why fan-fiction might not be a good idea on the whole, my main thought when you said The Edge was, "The wrestler or the singer?"
