I think the Shat's already been looking over his shoulder at Takei quite a lot.

I have several comments:

- To us, higher-thinking, non-homophobic people that get satire, George Takei can be a very funny man (although, recently, all the incidents I've seen of him being funny have him riffing on the same schtick, so next he's gotta show some range).

- His maniacal laughter has been pretty much entirely ripped from Clint Howard and "The Corbomiter Maneuver"; come on George, if you're going to rip Clinty, you gotta give him some dap, baby!

- I'm very glad that there were no ST references at all in Takei's stunt. (Somewhat antithetical to point two, I know, and you could arguably point out that the ST reference was cleverly hidden--see point two.)

- I can't help but feel that the humour in this sketch may be entirely lost on precisely the people who are on Hardaway's side of the fence. On some level, this bit perpetuates the stereoptype of gay-men as sexually fascinated satyrs representing a danger to all straight men everywhere. Which in turn perpetuates the stereotype of men as sexually fascinated stayrs, constantly threatening to the objects of their desire. So, I suppose, it's funny but I wish it weren't funny.

But, yeah, it's funny.

As a followup -- maybe that's one reason that satire is satire and works: it is funny, but you always wish it werent. So satire always contains an element of regret and sadness at just how fucked up our world actually can be.
