You know what would be an awesome video game?

Robocop as a Grand Theft Auto style sandbox game. You can do an introductory bit as Murphy, fightin' crime and gaining XP, until you get killed by Clarence and his crew, and then you get all Robocop-ed up, and you roll around Detroit fighting crime. And it would give Nancy Allen & Peter Weller some work (he can't be satisfied with academia).

It's so totally perfect. You could drive around in your cop car, or on a police bike, or possibly even the jetpack (or not, that was rather silly). And you wouldn't even have to kill hookers to get healed up, just go back to base and eat baby food, or unscrew your head with a power drill.

Man! It would rock SO MUCH.

I would totally play if A. you could drive the 6000 SUX and B. play the "Run Over The Poor Bastard Who Just Got Doused In Acid" mission over and over and over.

I'd love to see a post-apocalypse GTA, doing missions for various gangs & enclaves of survivors & dodging plague-zombie mutants at night.

I'd play it. It seems we've got the beginnings of something like that with "Crackdown." Maybe if the Ghostbusters game does well (according to Dan Ackroyd, it's on; Sony sold Universal the rights and he's doing mocap for the game.)

I know what it meant, but I read GTA as 'Greater Toronto Area'. Have there been any zombie movies shot here?

You could get 'department points' for official police upgrades by doing stuff the corrupt government wants you to, or 'black market points' for crazy street cyborg parts by going rogue and fighting the Man. And if you accumulate enough you could tip over into, like, Super-Oppressive Fascist Police State game mode or the Revolutionary Uprising one, where the sandbox is still all there but with different event triggers.

The upcoming game Crackdown is the closest thing to what you want.

Right. ^^; I'm not a connoisseur of the genre, so I don't remember these things.

I know RE2 had many scenes in Toronto, but all I know of is Hamilton. RE1 and 2 were shot here, as was Silent Hill.

I'd like to see a Cyberpunk GTA... ideally Cyberpunk 2020 actually crossed over with GTA but I'd take something just similar too. Cyberpunk's already got cities with crime infested areas (and 'good areas' of town where committing minor crimes gets hell brought down on you), gangs, is full of characters of dubious morality. And add in the ability to customize your character with cyberwear and Netrunning missions to GTA would rule.

But a post-apocalyptic one might be fun too.

I would buy it to see Robo-cop pop open a bottle of beets from Gerber at the end of a long day.
