Congrats to the National Post!

The National Post has won an international Journalism award!

The Daily Izzy has tied for first place in the Error of the Year award provided by RegrettheError.com. The award was for the front page banner headline story entitled Iran Eyes Badges for Jews.

This is from their extensive retraction of the story, emphasis mine:

We acknowledge that on this story, we did not exercise sufficient caution and skepticism, and we did not check with enough sources. We should have pushed the sources we did have for more corroboration of the information they were giving us. That is not to say that we ignored basic journalistic practices or that we rushed this story into print with no thought as to the consequences.

Of COURSE they didn't.

That's almost as retarded a piece of back-pedalery as "I didn't commit a crime; I just failed to comply with the law."

I remember when that story was published and burt onto the Lj-verse at immediately thought, anyone with half a brain can see this is wrong.

The problem being that saying that National Post readers have half a brain is giving them too much credit.
