Apparently, Marvel has done a special Avengers issue dedicated to The Troops. Written by Robert "Liefeld is the new Kirby" Kirkman.

I can't speak as to if the review writer knows about the Purple Healing Ray, but it's well done at least.

The Purple Healing Ray is Paradise Island... in the DC Universe... and I just showed my inner geek! :)

Or nerdier. 6 of one, half dozen of the other :)

That guy's review is pretty biased since he seems to really not like superhero comics to start with. Sort of like the "know your movie reviewer's tastes". My buddy does not like Horror movies, hence I never listen to his reviews of them, though when he reviewed SAW he raved about it being awesome so I knew I HAD to see it.

Robert Kirkman writes a lot of other good stuff so I'm always willing to forgive him the spot in his brain he has for Rob Liefeld.

Most of his comics, seriously, are really good.

The reviewer shows her colors here...

It’s telling, though, that the only example of successful superheroes-as-tribute that comes to mind isn’t even a narrative, but instead just a single image. Perhaps Marvel Comics would have done well to forego Time Trouble‘s weak tale in favor of a collection of stand-alone illustrations, though no Marvel characters pack quite the iconic or emotional punch that you get from Superman (not even, despite how appropriate he would be for such a cover image, Captain America.)

Nothing in that Marvel comic could possibly have been good enough - there just wasn't enough Superman in it.

Shame DC sends the troops Jack and Shit, isn't it?

Stupider things have been said.

Not by you, I mean - by people justifying their love for Liefeld.

Remember how everyone was scrabbling for reasons to say they liked Liefeld and the boys while all they were doing was justifying the fact that they greedily thought their Liefeld comics would make them multi-millionaires back in the 90's?
