According to Whedonesque, Flanvention 2 may be cancelled. This would be unfortunate, as I know people who have invested significantly into the convention and the trip down. And considering to ticket prices, it was an investment.

People are strange.

If this is cancelled, I desperately need the refund. Maybe the hotel will honor the rate anyway? Because I cannot afford for the hotel cost to go up.

I'm beyond livid that there is even a possibility of this con being cancelled.

I'm going. No matter what I am going to California. Only I hope that my first four days will be spent meeting some of my favorite actors.

Now, unless the convention registration is exceptionally expensive, if the person needs the refund to be financially OK, perhaps they should consider NOT going, and saving money on the hotel, registration, and travel. If airline tix are already pay for, double-check to see if you can cancel your reservation and apply the money towards a future flight, or get a refund minus a penalty fee, or something.

But financially, this person sounds like they're damned if they go to the con, and they're damned if the con is cancelled and they end up in $city.

Holy shit. Read more of the thread, and all the convention services were hugely expensive, and pre-paid, too? Jesus.

Fandom is insane.

Pre-registration for the event, sure -- but requiring pre-reg on stuff like autograph signings or picture ops, and those signings/ops being $60 ... christ. That's not some sort of nifty hallmark moment with your favourite star, that's prostitution without a money shot.

I feel so badly for the people who invested in this event. Although, I'm very relieved that I was too broke last year to buy my ticket...

Oh sure; I'm not saying the whores are wrong for selling themselves, I'm saying the people buying are completely non-understandable to me. However, as everyone knows, there is nothing wrong with legal prostitution.

That's very fortunate. I know I've met so many TO Browncoats who had tickets and who were SO excited for this and to see it starting to come apart at the seams is just so upsetting. We should have a TO Browncoat BEscrewed party for those not able to go to LA anymore...
