The page for WotC's new Star Wars Starship Battles gameis up.

Looks like the scale issues are as was feared (or at least expected), which is not surprising since it was either a Millennium Falcon the size of a pen nub or a Executor the size of your backyard.

10 fig starter (and the display is nice, since you can see the Executor and the Mon Cal flagship) and 7 fig boosters, and doesn't that sound familiar. They'll probably have previews, but at this point it's definitely from all sets, instead of just the second trilogy (like the introductory set for SW:CMG).

I find their definition of Durable plastic amusing. You can't look at a snowspeeder's blasters and say that stuff is durable.

Yeh, we were looking at previews of the figs the other night [I think on the forums over at Rebel Scum?]. First thing that came to my mind when I saw the name of the game was "Whoa, Star Fleet Battles with miniatures!" I just looked over the Quick Start Rules, though, and it looks to be a very different game.

Obvious question, but...

Why couldn't they do this with Babylon 5? (Other than the fact that all but the hardcore geeks have completely forgotten about the show, that is.) Or, never mind, I think I just answered my own question.

Yeah, those miniatures are s-w-e-e-t! Especially since they've used the animated series for inspiration, instead of the Paul Verhoeven "defilement and rape of Heinlein's corpse".

Bishop, form a Wedge!

Very simple. It's very much a collectable-generation game, where the basic rules are very, very simple, and the complexity arises from all the weirdo figures that show up.

Why they cling to squares instead of hexes is never clear to me. I expect a lot of weirdo diagonal flanking, given the way the maneuvering and the rules work.
