[livejournal.com profile] ludickid, in an ongoing attempt to prove he is the geekiest one there is has produced an analysis of fictional DC towns, and a breakdown of the NHL, NFL, NFA, MLB and MLS teams in each of them.

Amusingly enough, this is the sort of stuff that I'd normally check up on in my copy of the DCU Atlas (God bless the people at Mayfair, they did good work). I think they actually had a breakdown of sports teams.

In further observation, Marvel had mostly real real estate, yah? The only fake I can remember is Latveria. And that country Sabra's from*.

*Oh, Snap!

Marvel mostly had a real USA, but they freely made up countries around the world... Latveria, Genosha, Madripoor, off the top of my head. I think current Cable & Deadpool comics have a subplot about a small baltic country Rumekistan

Sabra is Israeli. No town was given.

Muir Isle's fictional too, if memory serves.

And Canada, that country that Alpha Flight is from.

Well, duh. I thought that was self-evident.

The existence of Canada is actually a viral ploy on the part of Alpha Flight's fanatical yet widely ignored (at best) or ridiculed (at worst) fanbase, intended to fool gullible and undereducated fankids (hey, when they're coming out of the US public school system, it ain't hard).

As anybody who's ever bothered to look at a real map can tell you, there's nothing north of the United States. Just a hole to the center of the earth that the aliens use to access Pellucidar.

And Skataris.

Let's not forget Agarttha, Symzonia, and Plutonia. I'm sure the territorial wars down there are loads of fun. Seriously, what's the point of being advanced and enlightened if you're not going to use to kick righteous butt?

Now I understand why the Savage Land is down at the South Pole.

Sweet, huh?

On the plus side, if you meet a real person claiming to be Canuckian... you know they're one of Them and must be disposed of for the good of humanity. That or they're deluded souls that bought into the conspiracy. Either way, better safe than sorry.

You realize of course that my ego -- to say nothin' of my professional resumé -- cannot tolerate this claim under any circumstances? *evil grin*

Who's he kidding, claiming that Hub City can support any kind of top-level pro sports teams at all, for example?

*evil grin gets even wider*

Gotcha.

Now, what does that say about that Senator or whomever it was saying Canuckia was a breeding ground for terrorists? (OTher than the fact that he's a complete jackass...)

I mean... is he part of THEM? Is he THEY? US? Or SOMEONE ELSE?

All of this and the lot of you forgot WAKANDA?

Douchebags. Turn in your Marvel Fan Club cards at the door!

I just want to know in what alternate Earth St. Albans is a "city." Burlington is the only "city" in Vermont and IT barely qualifies.

Fair enough. I'm not a Marvel fan, or a collector of any comic books nowadays. :)

I hardly think that Wakanda (whose ruler, T'challa, is one of my fave underutilised/mishandled Marvel characters, up there with Ka-Zar and Sandman) is the only one we neglected - since our thread mostly focused on fictional places in the North Pole area, and obviously went well beyond the provinces of just the Marvel Universe.

People fly and have other superpowers, and you're having problems with them calling a small place a city?
