Satire Sucks

thebitterguyMan, I'm a hypocrite.
So, recently, I finished four books. Okay, more than four, but four relevant ones to what I'm gonna say.
They were Stupid White Men by Michael Moore, How to be a Canadian by the Fergusons, and a couple books by Joe Queenan.
Really, I wasn't engaged. The Queenan books were, well, they were the meanest of the bunch.
The book where he talked about how he tried to be really, really nice (My Goodness) was the worst, actually, because I knew he was putting one over on me. "I'm trying to be good and nice!" You just KNEW he was fucking with you. 'Hah! Foolish mortals! ALl this time you thought I was being NICE! Ha ha!"
Moore has just stopped being funny. Sure, he's funnier visually. But his writing has a bit too much of the annoying screed to it. I don't think we needed a BOOK to tell us Bush is a tool.
The Ferguson book, man, that's what happens when you just throw out Canada Council grants with no rhyme or reason. Sure, there were some rilly, rilly funny bits. But consumed as a whole, it did not satisfy.
And, of course, I now have to figure out if I was that annoying when I was doing The Bitter Guide.
Naaahh.
