This article strikes me as more something written up as an April Fool's day joke than any actual community paper piece.

The lede is buried so deep it's not really apparent (is the story about Furries? The mascots? WHAT?!?), and it just seems like comedy.

Edit: Of course, if I'd read the comments on the original posting, I wouldn't have needed to ask that.

Cute bit, in any case.

A two minute search reveals this to be a fake.

FREX, Richmond Oregon is a ghost-town.

Fake article.

There is no Richmond, Oregon (other than an abandoned ghost-town).
There is no such newspaper as mentioned in the byline.
There is no Barbara Smullen.
There is no mascot named 'Tig'.

This was also released online last August, with comments on the fakery.
