Does anyone have more info on the whole Memento Mori AFD prank?

I assume the whole issue was settled once they posted that ludicrous Nasrudin Whatever website, right? But does anyone have links to the origins of the thing?

As I understand it (mostly gleaned from the brief blow-up about it on RPGnet), Jared devised it as a publicity stunt to promote a game based on disinformation or something. Someone on RPGnet saw commented on it. Which led to an outpouring of goodwill for Jared and some speculation about an April Fools prank. Somewhere along the way, John "Mr. Sensible" Wick made some comments from an "insider's perspective" that lent credence to the hoax AND managed to land him a three-day suspension for personal attacks.

(For those playing at home who might not remember, some years ago, Mr. Wick was the victim of a rather nasty hoax regarding his death in a car crash. It caused a similar outpouring of goodwill and made things hellish for the staff at RPGnet for a day or so trying to quash the rumors. You'd think that maybe that would've taught the guy a lesson about hoaxes as marketing tools. Before that, there was the alleged viral attack on the Orkworld manuscript and his apparent run-in with GW over the word "Ork.")

Said suspension has been extended to Jared and is now for a period of six months. Frankly, given the circumstances mentioned in the in the announcement, I think it's justified.

Three months if they'll make a public apology.

Still a long while, but would it really hurt them to not have a presence in RPG.Net for that stretch of time? Therein lies the question. I'm assuming the answer is a firm "maybe" ;)

Asking for an apology is lame. Just give them their licks. It's inappropriate for people do demand apologies when they aren't friends, families or business relationships and resembles nothing so much as the public humiliation tactics levied by grade school teachers.

I miss public duelling...

I didn't catch the direct reference if it was one, but there was a strong implication that some major players in the industry were cokeheads in his little rant. Given his previously stated opinions of those two individuals, I wouldn't put it past him.
