Today's Word of the Day, courtesy of Merriam Webster is Fiasco, which is amusing since I just finished watching Overnight, the story of Troy Duffy (no relation to [livejournal.com profile] troy_duffy), the director of Boondock Saints.

BS (what a terribly appropriate acronym) is an amusing little flick that I heard about on the internets (maybe from one of you, maybe from someone else) about two brothers who go medival on the mobs of Boston.

It's equally adored by anarchists, libertarians, Celto-philes and self loathing homosexuals alike. In fact, if you're an anarcho-libertarian self loathing celtophilic homosexual, you'll probably love it. For everyone else, it's too bad for good movie night and too good for bad movie night.

Anyway, it turns out there's a huge epic history behind the making of that flick. Duffy was given a sweetheart deal by Miramax, and apparently unimpressed the folks there, so he got dumped. Apparently the documentary focused more on "this guy's a douche" rather than "and here's how he fucked up", which is a shame, as it left the film kind of disjointed. It semed equal parts drunken revelry and unanswered phone calls.

BS is one of Heather's fave flicks and one of the movies she introduced me to. I'd heard of it in passing, but never enough to actually go out of my way to watch it. Being a celto-anarchist, I enjoyed it muchly.

I just created a LJ feed for the MW WotD... http://syndicated.livejournal.com/mw_wotd/profile/

I enjoyed BS as well, after going out and buying a copy on DVD a few years ago.

P.S. I thought that the word of the day was 'courtesy'?

"Boondock Saints" is brilliant. It's like the opening three-issue arc of an eighties anti-hero Punisher rip-off, except vastly funnier.

I'm an anarchist and vague celtophile, but I am uncomfortable about the basic message of the movie.

And watching it every time we woke up with hangovers didn't help.

I discovered Boondock Saints one day after, ahem, googling myself. Turns out to be a good thing cause I loved the movie. Pure, revenge-themed, ends-justify-the-means, street-justice fun with just enough religious themes and zealots to make it even more interesting. And Billy Connelly rocked!

Its too bad the Director fucked things up so badly (or was a complete ass, depending on which side you take) cause otherwise I would totally stolen his identity :)
