Dark Bedtime of the Soul
Feb. 11th, 2006 12:44 amOkay, not quite. Cynra is gung ho to get up at WTF O'Clock to get her oil changed and some diner breakfast (good old diner breakfast. It'll probably be listed as my CoD. And
pyat's, too).
Joss Whedon talks about X-Men comics.
Staring at an issue of Dragon with a cover by Denis Beauvais from his chess series (Beauvais' website seems to have been untouched for four or five years now).
February '87. Nineteen years ago.
There's an add for the Ultimate Powers Book in there. I wish I could play a MSH game after class.
Old Dragon mags are strange things. I mean, there's very little of use to me in this; the articles on tournaments and jousting might be interesting reads, but require a certain type of campaign I'm not likely to run or play in. MSH stats for Adam Warlock, Pip & Gamorra? God, were they not irrelevant even before that issue was released?*
Oh, man. Convention listings. Folie-Con '87 will be held at the Ramada Inn in Montreal. Registration is $10. Contact addresses and phone numbers for the Windsor GameFest 5, July 25-26. My dad would never have let me go, and my catalogue route wouldn't have gotten me enough money for the trip. I seriously should have saved up A&P cash for GenCon trips in the '80s/early '90s. Who knows what might have been.
Feh. Maudlin, again. Tired, I suppose. Feeling nostalgic, or just old. I should go shopping to make myself feel better.
Went in on some lottery tickets with a couple co-workers. Did not win. Ah, well.
*Yes, yes, they were VITAL in Infinity Gauntlet and the new She Hulk series for two issues

Date: 2006-02-11 06:13 am (UTC)With the exception of Serenity, I have loved his TV/movie work. However, (especially after Grant Morrison's masterful job with New X-Men, it's sad to see Joss doing such a wretched job with such a potentially good comic. His characterization is good, he remains good at working with moderate-sized ensemble casts, but his plotting is truly horrible. Very sad...

Date: 2006-02-11 01:32 pm (UTC)I used to read his Aircel comics ... I still have this issue of Warlock 5 (http://www.denbeauvais.com/two_d/2d_images/COMICS/WARLOCK.GIF) in a box somewhere. Always thought it would make for a pretty cool game ... although games normally imply a trust level amongst the group that would be lacking in a standard Warlock 5 game.
Sort of Paranoia meets Diplomacy meets Mage.
Anyway, in 1990 I worked at Ceremonial Guard, in Ottawa. His younger brother was one of my recruits. So ... our platoon shirt (long since faded away and tossed) had a silk-screen by DB -- and after the summer I went out with the troop and visited him. Cool guy.
Like a fantasy-art loving n00b I was kind of suprised to see the amount of normal "loon floating in a lake" Wildlife things he'd done.
Anyway. There you have it. Continue with your regularly scheduled Saturday.
Doug.

Date: 2006-02-11 05:36 pm (UTC)I'm strongly contemplating joining the Toronto Boargame society so I can play the darn Doom boardgame I got last year.
Thanks!

Date: 2006-02-11 08:22 pm (UTC)Shit, I've got the Civilization board game (the one Sid based the computer game on) that I bought... like... 18 years ago, and only ever played a couple times. :P

Date: 2006-02-12 02:29 am (UTC)I don't think I have any that I haven't played at all - but Civilization, and the AD&D war game rules, and prolly a couple others, I only ever used a few times at best.
