You all better watch yourselves
Jan. 22nd, 2006 10:55 amOr at least some of you had better.
Yesterday, while Cynra & I took in the beauty that is Milton (to be detailled shortly), we stopped at a UBS named Kymbits. While Cynra moved about and selected some 55 year old SF novel set in the dark future of 1960, YHB searched high and low for something, anything of interest. It came up fairly dry, YHB being a man of refined tastes.
Until, you see, I stumbled upon a set of the Flashman series. Now, no small number of you (okay, really, a very small number of you, primarily from the sjgames.chatter.books forum, iirc) have in the past claimed these were the best thing since marmalade on toast. I don't particularly like marmalade, but that's a matter of taste.
Of course, books are a matter of taste too, so why I listen to the marmalade crew is a... Sorry, what was I talking about? Right, Flashman.
Anyway, so, I picked up books 1 & 2. If they suck, there will be a righteous reckoning.

Date: 2006-01-22 04:21 pm (UTC)I've read some of the Flashman books; I thought they were fun and okay.
Of course, I get most of my Victorian comedy fix by reading and re-reading Jerome K. Jerome's "Three Men in a Boat", perhaps the funniest book in the English language.
::B::
P.S. What SF book did Cynra buy?
